Yesterday, I was cleaning my house and came across a pair of shoes I have not worn in over 3 years. They were a pair of pink and black, high-top, Chuck Taylor’s. I'm not crazy about the "baby" pink color, so I don't really wear them anymore. "If only they were a different color," I thought as I was about to toss them in the "DONATE" pile.

Then, as if those were the magic words, I got an idea!
I busted out my paints and sharpies and went to work! Here are some pictures of my end result. (Note: Ignore the crazy picture of myself, this is my cleaning face.)

Now I have a pair of fun, new shoes and they didn't cost me a penny! As soon as I was finished with my creation, my mom called.

"
Whatcha doin?" she asks.
"I was just painting my shoes..." I replied.

I can only imagine the look on her face as she said, "Well of course you were...What else would you have been doing?"

We had a good laugh.

I'm not suggesting that you clean out your closet and paint all of your shoes, but try to think of creative ways to reuse some of what you already have. Whether it’s an old shirt or curtains that can be dyed a new color or an ugly old dresser that could use a fresh paint job and some nifty drawer handles. Why buy new when we can reuse?!

Let's get creative!
